August 21, 2025

In a Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung announced the One UI 8 Watch version with the Galaxy Watch 8 series. In the next few weeks or months, it will roll out to older Galaxy Watches. Along with the Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 6, and Watch 7 series, it is now confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 4 will get the newest major update. It will not enter the beta testing program, but it will receive the stable software version directly.

To bring it inch closer, Samsung has started working on new One UI 8 Watch software for the Galaxy Watch 4 series.

The new firmware build has been spotted in the database server to confirm it further. The newly discovered test build is R870XXU1JYG2 for the 40mm variant, and R880XXU1JYG2 for the 42mm smartwatch variant. The beta testing program for the new version is now open for Galaxy Watch 7 & Watch Ultra.

Later this month or early next month, it will start for the Galaxy Watch 5 & Watch 6 lineup. After a successful beta program, the company will deliver a stable version of it, so it will take some time.

In a new software, Samsung Health has received new features like Running Coach, Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, and Antioxidant Index. Further, it brings the Now Bar function to the smartwatch along with Google’s Gemini AI assistant.

At the moment, we are not sure which Galaxy Watch 8 functions, including watch faces, will come to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. For this older smartwatch, it could be its last major software update.
