Apple Watch in India has now started supporting Vodafone Idea cellular services. The Apple Watch cellular or LTE customers can now use their Vodafone Idea eSIM in the watch. It makes users leave their smartwatch at home and do their outdoor activities. Vodafone Idea is not the first telecom operator to get the Apple Watch eSIM support. before it, Airtel & Reliance Jio has received support since older Apple Watch Series watches. Now with the new telecom operator, more subscribers can get benefit from it.
Currently, the service is available in Mumbai, Delhi & Gujrat circles. In the future, the support will come to other circles to spread the support in major cities like Banglore, Kolkata, Hyderabad & Pune. Right now only Postpaid customers can use the cellular services and there is no date for Prepaid users. Once you pair your number with your Apple Watch then you can leave the smartphone. Note that you are not getting any new SIM number. You are only transferring the mobile number of the paired smartphone to the paired Apple Watch.
Here is what Vodafone Idea’s marketing director says about the new services.
“Consumers today are increasingly moving towards having connected products in their lives. With the launch of cellular support for Apple Watch we are enabling our customers to connect their Apple Watch to their iPhone using the same / existing mobile number and enjoy the freedom of using their Apple Watch independently to stay connected,” said Avneesh Khosla, Director – Marketing, Vodafone Idea Ltd.
The users can use the cellular services with all Apple Watch Cellular series smartwatches and you must use iPhone 6s or above model. More users will avail of this service when Apple launches Apple Watch Series 6 smartwatch along with iPhone 12 series.
