Google finally brings in its much-awaited “Fall Update” to more of its smartwatches. The update intended to reach the users by fall but only Suunto 7 received the Wear OS H-MR2 update in September. Other smartwatches were still working with the April 2020 update as Google delayed the rollout to more smartwatches. The update will likely bring better enhancements and more battery efficiency to its users and come in as Android 9 H MR2. We think only Fossil Gen 5 series, Diesel Axial, Skagen Falster 3, and Emporio Armani Smartwatch 3 have received the update so far but others will also get it soon.
You might have to manually check for the update in the settings panel as in Fossil Gen 5 it was found that automatic update didn’t take place immediately. The update has brought in many significant changes to the smartwatches like better optimization of battery usage and new screen brightness layout as well. There were few complaints regarding the poor performance of Wear OS-powered smartwatches that are taken care of now as you can launch apps 20% faster than before.
You can now turn off the Long Press Power Button gesture to activate Google Assistant and also set the screen-off time limit according to your preference. In Google Fit, the new workout and breathe tile has been added with New home screen & New Sleep features. You can now add 10 more tiles, and the weather tile has also been upgraded for a better look. With this, the LTE support has been improved and the pairing process has been simplified further.
The company has also added a hand wash timer keeping the pandemic in mind this is a welcome update. Improved performance Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100 and more platforms and in the SysUI improvements more efficient management of different watch modes and workouts. The update seems to come in phases hence will likely reach maximum smartwatches by early next year.
