Update (Feb 11): After waiting of two years, Finally, WhatsApp made its way to enter in cashless or online money transfer business in India. Recently, the NPCI or National Payments Corporation of India has given a green signal to the company. The permission from NPCI means WhatsApp would soon launch its digital payment platform in the country. The biggest messaging service app in the world has over billions of customers in India that the company want to convert in its online money transfer platform. At the start, WhatsApp Pay will be limited to 10 million customers. In India, Google Pay, PayTM & PhonePe is the most prominent player in the digital payment platform.
Original Article: WhatsApp, the largest instant sharing app in the world, is now launched money transfer feature on Sunday. WhatsApp users can now send money through the app to their friend’s bank account. The WhatsApp Pay feature is now available in India, and it is connected with the government’s UPI system. It is the only feature that is active now. You can transfer money from one bank account to another bank account with the UPI feature. This feature is only available on the new version. If you are using older version of WhatsApp Messenger then you will not find it. You first update it to the new version, and then you will see the Payment feature.

After this feature, WhatsApp is no longer just a simple chatting app. It is now more than that, this month Facebook has released WhatsApp Business app for all marketers and now with the launch of Payment services, it became more pro for all users. It is good that WhatsApp went with UPI based payment system. After the demonization in India, government has launched its own UPI based BHIM app. So with the help of this system, more users will be beneficial.
This feature is in Beta mode, so some features are missing from it. Like right now, you can’t send money from your account to any wallet account. In the country, many users use PayTM, Airtel Money, Mobikwik, Google Tez (Google Pay), and many rests. This feature may come into the next update. This is the first version with this payment function; Facebook said it is fast, simple & secure option to send money. Users always need one simple & the reliable solution to address their cash without any hiccups and WhatsApp may complete it.
To open payment option on WhatsApp go to Settings – > Payment or open it from Attachment – > Payment. To use WhatsApp Pay both sender & receiver should be on the latest version, they both must have Payment feature. Currently, this feature is not available for all users in the country. There is no date when it is available for all users. Also, note that to use it, your number must be the same as your bank mobile number. If you are running on the previous version, then go to Play Store and download the latest app version.
