The Samsung officially announced its 5G modem which was in discussion from last few months. This Exynos 5100 modem is worlds first 5G modem that is compliant with the 3rd Generation Partnership Programme norms. After the launch of Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Watch, this is another breaking news from Samsung. Trial of this modem was carried out by Samsung early this year without announcing any date of its launching. With the recent trial it is predicted to be enter the market very soon. This modem is built with the 10nm processor technology which supports radio access and legacy networks.
This 5G modem is equipped to support sub 6GHz and mmWave spectrums which are compliant with the 3GPP standards. The Exynos 5100 modem will support the legacy networks like 2G GSM/CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA and 4G LTE within single chip. This 5G modem is fully capable of delivering maximum speed up to 2GBps using the sub 6GHz frequency and up to 6Gbps on the mmWave.
The next technology has 1.7 times and 5 times faster when compared to its predecessors by using the sub 6GHz and mmWave setting. The new chip will be useful in the latest technology like Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence because of its high speed. The Samsung announced the launching of this device in the market by the end of 2018. The price and availability of modem is not announced yet, but we predict it will available in all major countries.
Samsung Galaxy S10 or Samsung galaxy Note 10 possibly be the first devices to use Exynos chipset which supports 5G bands on smartphones. In US Verizon is moving forward to launch its fastest internet services in 4 major cities and in Japan DoCoMo is trying its best to launch before Olympic games 2020.
