WhatsApp Fixes Bug That Broke the App on Galaxy Watches

October 10, 2025

According to several reports on Reddit, affected users found that launching WhatsApp on their Galaxy Watch smartwatch brought up a message stating that their version of the app had become “obsolete.” The message prompted users to download the latest version from the Google Play Store, but even after checking for updates, no new version was available. This led to widespread confusion, as users were unable to access messages or respond directly from their smartwatches.

Thankfully, the issue appears to have been resolved quickly. WhatsApp has reportedly rolled out a new update that fixes the problem, restoring normal functionality to Wear OS smartwatches. Users who install the latest update from the Play Store should now be able to use the app without interruptions.

It’s still unclear what exactly caused the “obsolete version” error, though it likely stemmed from a backend configuration or version mismatch issue on WhatsApp’s end. The company has not issued an official statement, but given the swift fix, it seems the problem was handled internally.

For Wear OS users, especially those using WhatsApp as a key part of their smartwatch experience, this update comes as a relief. If you’re still facing issues, make sure your smartwatch and phone apps are updated to the latest versions via the Google Play Store.
