The internal sources and some online evidence claim that Xiaomi is planning to launch its smartwatch based on the Wear OS platform. Xiaomi has already captured smartphone & fitness band markets with its Redimi Note 6 & 6 Pro, Note 7 & 7 Pro, Mi Band 3 & Band 4 devices. Now the Chinese tech giant is ready to enter into smartwatch business and Wear OS might be the platform it has chosen to introduce its first watch. The 9to5Google has revealed new data that shows Xiaomi is working on the Android’s Wear OS companion app.
When the app APK decompiled the files show the name ‘Mi Wear’ in the code lines as an Android companion app uploaded to the Play Store. This APK file has decompiled from the latest version of the Wear OS app. Android allows companies to use their companion apps to connect the watch like Huawei uses Huawei Wear for Huawei Watch & Watch 2 watches. Fossil, Garmin & Mobvoi also use apps to manage all their wearables along with they offer additional services.
Furthermore, the decompiled codes from the app confirm the name ‘Mi Watch’ might be the first smartwatch from the company. Evidence of another companion app first come in the news in July with Wear OS 2.26 version, codenamed Baiji. In another report, Xiaomi is already started to work on its upcoming Mi Band 5 fitness tracker with the help of Huami though it is unclear Huami works in this project. By the time, we will know more about the upcoming Xiaomi smartwatch as well as next fitness band.
