Samsung may finally be preparing a meaningful battery upgrade for its next Ultra flagship. Battery information linked to the Galaxy S27 Ultra has appeared through China’s 3C certification database, pointing to a rated capacity of 5,534mAh. That number is important because Samsung’s current Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 5,000mAh typical battery capacity. Samsung officially lists the S26 Ultra with a 5,000mAh battery and up to 60W wired charging.
If the certification information is accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could be marketed with a battery capacity of around 5,700mAh. Several reports covering the certification have made the same distinction between the rated capacity and the higher typical capacity manufacturers generally advertise. The 5,534mAh figure should not automatically be treated as the final advertised battery capacity.
Regulatory documentation commonly uses a rated or nominal capacity, while smartphone manufacturers may advertise a typical capacity that is somewhat higher. For comparison, reports note that the Galaxy S26 Ultra has a rated capacity of around 4,855mAh but is marketed with a 5,000mAh typical capacity.
That is why the S27 Ultra is currently expected to carry a 5,700mAh-class battery, although Samsung has not officially announced this specification. The reported increase would be roughly 700mAh over the S26 Ultra’s advertised capacity. That is a noticeable change for the Ultra lineup after several generations of 5,000mAh batteries.
Charging may not increase with the battery
One interesting detail is that the larger battery does not appear to be accompanied by a major charging upgrade. The same certification-related reports indicate 60W wired charging for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
That would match the charging capability Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung says the S26 Ultra’s 60W Super Fast Charging 3.0 can reach up to 75% charge in around 30 minutes under the company’s specified conditions. So the potential S27 Ultra change appears to be focused more on battery capacity than charging speed.
Battery chemistry remains less certain
There have also been reports connecting the Galaxy S27 series with newer battery technology, including silicon-carbon cells. However, the certification information establishes the battery capacity, not necessarily its chemistry.
That distinction matters. A larger battery alone does not confirm that Samsung has switched to silicon-carbon technology. For now, the safer conclusion is that the 5,534mAh rated battery is the reported certification figure, while the final marketed capacity and battery technology remain unconfirmed.
A larger battery gives Samsung more capacity to work with, but it does not automatically mean 14% longer real-world battery life. Screen brightness, processor efficiency, mobile network usage, camera use, gaming, and software optimization will still affect endurance. Still, if Samsung ships the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a battery around 5,700mAh, it would represent a clear hardware change from the current 5,000mAh Ultra configuration.
Samsung has not yet officially announced the Galaxy S27 Ultra or confirmed these battery specifications. Until that happens, the certification information should be treated as strong pre-release evidence rather than a final specification.
