Garmin Users Can Now Download Alpha Updates Via OTA

Fenix 7 Series Beta 13.18 Update

Garmin has made a big change in its Alpha & Beta software update policies. With the new rules, the users who want to install the Alpha version on their watch no longer need to download it manually through a computer. Instead, users can now download the Alpha version right from their watch via OTA (Over-the-Air). Further, Alpha versions will be now recognized as ‘Early’ or ‘First’ versions.

The Beta version rules have also changed, and now users will receive Beta updates automatically on their watches. The beta version is referred to as more stable than Alpha updates, and users can give feedback under the public Beta bug reports.

To install Alpha updates, users can go to Main Menu – System – About – Check for Updates. On the other hand, a beta version will be downloaded automatically once you agree to get them from Device Settings – Join Beta Software Program.

For now, new changes apply to Fenix 6 series, Fenix 7 series, Epix Gen 2, MARQ series, Forerunner 255, 955, 955 LTE, 945 LTE, Venu 2, Venu 2 Plus, and Edge 1040 series.
